The Best and Worst Films of 2019

This is the year of ending Story lines. From films and TV shows such as The Avengers, Star Wars, X-Men, and Game of Thrones. This is also the year we heard so many fanboys rage and cry out! Most of our expectations have been subverted in all the wrong ways.

Worst Films

X-Men Dark Phoenix

This is the worst film of the year because its a very serious film. Why anyone would remake a film that failed to keep fans happy is way beyond me. I cant believe the movie studio even green lit this film. Other films this year that was bad was trying to be comedic or funny in some way (Not all of them). Some films tried something new and failed. This movie was supposed to “Fix” the Dark Phoenix story but ended up just making it worse.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

An absolute screenplay writing nightmare. A perfect example of how not to write a movie (Take notes future script writers) This film is all over the place and adds way too much to a trilogy that just simply needed to develop mentioned characters (The Knights of Ren and Snoke’s backstory) and wrap up two previous movies. Instead director J.J. Abrams wanted to wrap up 8 previous movies. That is idiotic and highly unnecessary because Return of the Jedi wrapped up the first 6 films already. Further elaboration is not needed. As a product from a popular brand, we were promised that episode 8 would be wrapped up (We got ripped off, typical of J.J. Abrams and his awful Star Trek films). This film retcons episode 8 instead of wrapping it up. Even George Lucas did not retcon episode 2 when making episode 3. I love the Last Jedi but Star Wars is the first 6 movies for me. This is a perfect example of someone who doesn't care about brand quality and shows an unprofessional lack of ability to simply finish a trilogy like any true director should be able to. I have no desire of any kind to ever see this film again. If I wanted to watch a fan fiction movie, I would have searched the internet for one.

Just OK Films

Captain Marvel

She was better in End Game. I think this film was not written well at all. Its story is all over the place and not straight forward enough. Luckily for us End Game gives us Danvers as a real hero who fights with everything she’s got to help defend earth. She was hardly in the movie End Game but we felt the impact of her character in that film more so than her own film.

Spider-Man: Far From Home

It’s somewhat of a disappointment to learn the true origin of the main antagonist. This is way more of a fun movie that celebrates more of the family oriented fun. That's a much needed break from more of the raw and gritty films immersed in realism.

Best Films

Joker

This is a surprisingly good villain origin story. I had no idea this movie would be this good. It's very hard for me to make the decision for the number one spot for this years list. This movie almost made it to first place. This film really dives deep into the world the joker lives in and his interaction with it. Very well done.

Avengers: Endgame

This was very close because Joker was very good. This movie does something very different than the other Marvel films. They take minor characters and have them largely interact with the major characters of the MCU. This really makes these films feel like the Marvel universe we see in the comics. I found this film very refreshing. This was one of the very few movies that I left the theater feeling like I actually got my monies worth.
