Synopsis: An imprisoned French knight is captured and begins a reign of revenge.

Review: A French Knight named Jacques de Saint Amant ( David La Haye ) wants revenge for the death and crimes against his mother at the hands of a village. He uses illusionary magic to make people see things that are not there. He also uses the sickness known as the black plague to exact his revenge.

Lena Headey sticks to her strengths and once again plays a queen like leader who is over other people. Movies like Low Down (2014) with Peter Dinklage is definitely a low point for her acting career. She was not playing a queen or a leader. It would seem like she is typecast in Hollywood but what she does as a queen like leader she does very well. These kinds of roles are what are getting her work in show business.

The film focuses on the concept of revenge. This concept is overdone and very predictable. I think this is something Hollywood should slowly move away from since anyone watching these revenge movies already know what is going to happen. There are so many of these kinds of movies that they feel empty. Obviously there are some revenge films that are well done but second rate Hollywood producers over rely on these movies.

Average

Film

The cinematography is well done. The lighting, wardrobe, backgrounds, and set dressing suit this film well for the story and the time period. This movie is very strange, depressing, and absolutely not a family film. The film leaves you with a very disturbing scenario that is hard to shake off after you watch it. The premise of the film is very similar to The Crow (1994) starring Brandon Lee, that being a supernatural revenge specter of sorts. A just average film, I suggest you watch any else but this.
