The top 10 British Actress movies
Score: 8/10
Director: Stephen Poliakoff
Stars: Lena Headey, Charles Dance, Clive Owen, Miranda Richardson.
Synopsis: A young doctor becomes a researcher in a prestigious medical institute and works on a new kind of treatment for diabetes.
Review: Paul Reisner ( Clive Owen ) is a young doctor who is given the opportunity to becomes a researcher in a very prestigious medical institute. He does well in this job and becomes the favorite among his peers. One day he crosses the boss and gets himself into hot water. As he tries to get back into his bosses good graces, he stumble on a very disturbing revelation that changes to course of the institute forever.
Lena Headey has a very small role in this movie. She does her job well but this film highly focuses on the actors Charles Dance and Clive Owen. Charles Dance really reminds me of Tywin Lannister from Game of Thrones in this role. Clive Owen’s chartacer comes off as unstable but a very active protagonist. This movie is very well cast.
This film is a period piece so it has many focuses from eugenics, racism, benevolence, charity, and so on. That is actually very good since the world that the characters exist in is very deep, real, and third dimensional. Of course nothing is what it seems and everyone has an agenda. This is the real lesson that our main protagonist has to learn.
The cinematography is well done for its time. The lighting, set dressing, wardrobe, and backgrounds are all well done, with the exception of it being very dated by time. The film has an active protagonist like I have mentioned before but this guy seems like he needs just as much mental health as some of his patients. He is so crazy at times that anyone can understand why he was in trouble with the head Doctor. I won’t spoil the movie here, so I won’t talk about the many plot twists, but the second half of the movie takes a turn that does not have enough explanation to really sell the audience the plot. This is also commented on by the movie’s main protagonist. I found this film very interesting to watch and I love the fact that this film is heavily story based. This is not an action film by any means so if you want something more like Marvel’s film this is not the film for you. This movie is well above average.
