Synopsis: In his homeland of Alagaesia, a farm boy happens upon a dragon’s egg. This discovery leads him on a predestined journey where he realizes he is the one person who can defend his home against an evil king.

Review: After Arya ( Sienna Guillory ) steals a dragon egg from the High Over Lord Galbatorix ( John Malkovich ), the egg is found by a young man named Eragon ( Ed Speleers ). The egg hatches and Eragon begins raising a baby dragon. Once the dragon is matured, he goes on a journey of heroism.

Rachel Weisz is a dragon, a strangely rendered dragon. Maybe it was the CGI of the time but I would have thought that the CGI would have looked better on a movie budget. The voice of Rachel Weisz works well with the character, especially when she is being smarmy. I remember first seeing Sienna Guillory when she played Jill Valentine in the movie Resident Evil Apocalypse (2004) which I give a 7 out of 10. She reminders me of Tauriel the she-elf in The Hobbit the Desolation of Smug (2013) which I give an 8 out of 10. She does her job well in this movie. Robert Carlyle plays in a lot of fantasy media from Stargate Universe ( horrible show ) to Once upon a Time. I loved his work as the main antagonist in ‘Renard’ in the James Bond film The World is Not Enough (1999) which I also give a 7 out of 10. John Malkovich is being his typical John Malkovich self in this film. Its like if we lived in a fantasy world where John Malkovich is the supreme over lord of all the land.

Ed Speleers as Eragon.

A simple coming of age story about a boy and his dragon. They both start fighting a dark lord. I feel like we all have seen this story before. The BBC TV series Merlin is basically the same thing. Especially in the way the main protagonists uses magic. Merlin did it better though. I can see where some of the ideas came from when these shows where made. Daenerys Targaryen story in the HBO series Game of Thrones is some what similar. The story gets better the more you watch it but in today’s market of fantasy movies and TV shows, there is better fantasy media out there.

Sienna Guillory as Arya.

The cinematography is very good. The backgrounds are not that great. They look kind of boring actually. The wardrobe is fine. The lighting could have been better. So I guess this film sets the stage for more popular fantasy movies and shows. This film didn’t really didn’t get me into it sadly. The film hits all of the story telling elements that most good films use. The movie is middle of the road. I think the Lord of the Rings movies really took most of the spot light when it comes to fantasy films and left all of the other movies in the dust. This film is middle of the road.
