Director: Anna Foerster
Stars: Kate Beckinsale, Theo James, Tobias Menzies.
Synopsis: Vampire Death Dealer, Selene ( Kate Beckinsale ) fights to end the eternal war between the Lycan clan and the Vampire faction that betrayed her.
Review: Selene in hunted down by both Vampires and Lycans. She has lost everything and struggles to survive. Marius ( Tobias Menzies ) is a Lycan that wants Selene’s daughter so he can use her blood to win the war. Other vampires are making their power plays as well.
As usual Kate Beckinsale is damn great at what she does! Star quality all the way. Its addictive to watch her on the screen. She is a true star and we are lucky to be alive to see her on the screen. Bradley James does a solid job in this film. Its good to see he actually has work since his role as King Arthur in the BBC TV series Merlin. The main reason to watch the movie is for Kate Beckinsale because this film has serious problems.
The plot twists in this movie are very interesting. All most every major characters is in the middle of a power play of some sort. But seriously? Do these vampires and Lycans have anything better to do with their time? Everyone is stabbing each other in the back. Double crossing and triple crossing each other. There is way too much happening off camera. For instance, Selene does not know where her daughter is, but why is that written into the screenplay? There is a critically important story line that happens to Michael. He has fought off so many powerful enemies in the previous movies, yet he is just taken out of the major story line in the most weak and pathetic way that is not worthy of his character. It is really not good how they treated his story in this movie. Its very disappointing. I have to say that I would have to lower my final score for this film just because of how Michael’s story ended.
The cinematography is decent. The musical score in alright. If your looking for violence, you get your monies worth. I just cant help but feel some what disappointed with this movie. Don’t get me wrong, there is a lot of great action in this film. The creators of this franchise just got rid of the main characters and made a movie about some new Vampires and Lycans, all the while ignoring a major characters from the first movie ‘Michael’ and a major character ‘Eve‘. They are just gone for the duration of this film. This movie has some serious ‘set up and pay off’ problems over all. The movie is watchable but leaves you wanting more out of it. A decent movie at best.
