Synopsis: A married couple becomes stranded at an isolated motel and finds hidden video cameras in their room. They soon realized that unless they escape, they’ll be the next victims of a snuff film.

Review: A couple who’s marriage in on the rocks, is driving on a highway when they experience some car trouble. David ( Luke Wilson ) the husband of Amy ( Kate Beckinsale), tries unsuccessfully to fix the car. Giving up, the two walk to the nearest motel for some respite. As they start to relax in their room, they begin to notice that something is very wrong.

Kate Beckinsale gives a decent performance as an American, given the fact that she is British. The film is not really capable of letting she true talents show, so we can’t see her full range as an actress. She is capable of much more. Luke Wilson does great in this film but it feels like the story line limits his abilities because the plot keeps the two main characters in the motel. Welcome to jump scare heaven. Loud noises and weird music as a cheap way to ’scare’ you into this mellow horror movie. This film is filled with lots of running and characters looking scared around every corner. Yes the story is implausible and highly unrealistic.

The cinematography is very interesting. The director makes good use of the reflection of the actors faces in the mirrors on the set in order to give the audience a unique look at a scene. The camera person is of course using a hand held cam to give us a feeling that we are walking with the actors as they approach a room or object. The film makes use of great of wide shots while incorporating the lights in the rooms in a scene, giving the scene a much more interesting frame. The zoom ins, outs, and pans are also used to keep the films scenes interesting, but not like a cinematic fad. The film also has very bold , but not bright color. The lighting seems just a little too dark but at the same time the film has excellent use of true black, which gives the film better use of bold colors.

The wardrobe, backgrounds, and set dressing are well done. The movie is really slow paced. If you like Kate Beckinsale you will have no problem starring at the screen for two hours. If your looking for a deep story with lots of philosophical concepts look elsewhere. The motel in this movie reminds me of the motel in the early Silent Hill games. Strangely enough, the look of the film is better than the story. The cinematography pushes the boundaries while the story does not. There is nothing great about the story at all. I couldn’t wait for this film to be over with.
