The top 10 British Actress movies
Score: 5/10
Director: Fabio Guaglione
Stars: Annabelle Wallis, Armie Hammer, Tom Cullen, Juliet Aubrey.
The Honorable Mention Series:
Synopsis: After a failed mission, a soldier finds himself stranded in the middle of the desert while escaping the angry bodyguards of his target.
Review: The U.S. military sends a sniper named Mike ( Armie Hammer ) and a spotter named Tom ( Tommy Madison ) to eliminated a high risk target they have been tracking for three months. The mission ends in failure and both Mike and Tom are on the run, headed to the extraction point. On their way the encounter a mine field.
Annabelle Wallis does not have a large part in this movie but she does well enough. It’s kind of weird to me that films like this take actresses with incredible range and talent such as the film The Hurt Locker (2008) where Evangeline Lilly plays a simple house wife that essentially does nothing. Not to say that there is anything wrong with being or playing a house wife but anyone could read the script for this film Mine (2016) and absolutely know that this movie WILL end up in the barging bin in some video game store or on clearance in Wal-Mart. So why not utilize her talent and integrate her into the script a little more. Another film with this problem is the Adam Sandler movie Click (2006), a film I truly regret watching. That being said there is a trend that is not doing movie studios any favors. I will also take into account that maybe these actresses wanted to play in a movie and not do so much work but, wouldn’t the actress see the artistic said of film making by being in a film that was a little more engaging? Armie Hammer plays this part very well. Armie Hammer also played the Russian agent Illya from the Film The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015) You can tell he likes being an action guy. For him it seems to work.
So this film posits the idea of letting the past die and moving forward. The key phrase repeated throughout the whole movie is “take the next step”. Like Kylo Ren’s ideology from Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017), letting the past die is the only way to movie on. This is the most interesting movie about a guy in the middle of the desert I have seen in a while. That does not mean that I really like this movie, it’s just the best of the worst. Like Ryan Reynolds in the film Buried (2010) there is only so much psychology and so much you can explore when the main protagonist is either buried alive in a box or standing in the same spot for two hours in the middle of the desert.
The cinematography is average. This film takes place dead in the middle of the desert so there really is not a lot that the director can do to improve the cinematography. Everywhere you look there is sand. The lighting, wardrobe, and backgrounds ( more sand ) are well suited for the premise of this movie. The only real set dressing in this film is some trash on the ground and even more desert sand. One would think that this film is boring but no! This movie really messes with your head. The film trolls you hard, really hard. Some parts of this movie is very predictable but when you keep watching, you tent do understand the film more so. Basically if the TV show Lost was a big desert, is what the films ideas seem to lean towards. Watch this very average movie if you’re bored.
