The top 10 British Actress movies
Score: 7/10
Director: Burr Streers
Stars: Lena Heady, Lily James, Jack Huston, Matt Smith, Charles Dance, Sam Riley.
Synopsis: In the 19th century five sisters must handle the pressures to marry while protecting themselves from a growing population of zombies.
Review: Elizabeth Bennet ( Lily James ) lives in a world where zombies run free across the land. There are very few places that are safe zones. If you turned into a zombie, the authorities will kill you. Mean while, the ladies of England are expected to marry a man of wealth all the while trying not to get bitten by a zombie and turned.
Lena Heady’s role in this movie is similar to her role in Game of thrones as Queen Cersei Lannister but with mad combat skills and an eye patch like Metal Gear’s Big Boss. Her role is not big in this film but she is here. Charles Dance plays another father concerned with the marriage arrangements of his daughter like in Game of Thrones. Lily James is acting with two Game of thrones actors like in the Helena Bonham Carter film Cinderella with Robb Stark ( Richard Madden) and Xaro Xhoan Daxos ( Nonso Anozie ). These Game of thrones actors play similar roles in these film which is both good and bad. They play their parts perfectly but their roles also makes the story very predictable. It seem to be working out for the films and the actors so far but I can see where Hollywood is starting to “typecast” these celebrities which can affect how the audience sees their acting talent.
The film focuses on the concept of politics at the time. Women would marry men who have money and recourses so that they can have children and rise a family. This is an old world where that kind of idea could flourish unlike today where the economy is so inflated that both women and men are mostly in survival mode just to make ends meet. Of course this is what the parents of the main protagonist is trying to avoid their children from experiencing. Aspects of this film are very similar to the film Love & Friendship (2016) a movie adapted by the book written by Jane Austen, starring Kate Beckinsale, where a woman plays the role of match maker in order to get her daughter and herself married. Its obvious since the root material is based on Jane Austen’s book 1813 novel Pride and Prejudice, parodied by Seth Grahame-Smith’s 2009 novel Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, then adapted into this film.
The cinematography is competent. The lighting is a bit dull at times. The wardrobe is well done. The backgrounds and set dressing are well done but the color in this film is very dull. Some times the lighting and color is very good and very attractive to the eye, but other times the its so dull and doesn’t bring out the best in a scene. This movie is less boring than all the other films based on Jane Austen’s work. The film is not great but not bad either. If you want to see an old world film than watch that more interesting than this, watch Les Misérables (2012) Helena Bonham Carter. If your not into musicals than watch Suffragette (2015). As for this film, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016) its just passable. Watch it if your bored.
