Synopsis: The adventures of Han Solo and his side kick Chewbacca as they delve deep into the criminal underworld.

Review: Han is a young street rat from a back water planet not fully developed by George Lucas. One day Han and Qi’ra are on their way off the planet Corellia when Qi’ra is capture and escapes. Vowing to return to the planet and rescue his girlfriend, Han joins the imperial navy and goes AWOL along side a captured and recently freed Chewbacca.

Emilia Clarke does well as the character Qi’ra, although it seems that she probably should have been in this film a lot more. Alden Ehrenraich does a competent job a young Han. His performance is acceptable but I think fans want these Solo side stories to go towards the Lando direction a lot more. Donald Glover does great as Lando, very convincing. Woody Harrelson is just basically Haymitch Abernathy from the Hunger Games series. I am very disappointed since this film shows the limits of his acting range. He is very much miss cast in this film.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Donald Glover.

The film focuses on the concept of betrayal and in the most ridicules way. How could anything in this science fiction world get done when everyone is betraying each other. Honestly this would turn off a lot of fans because the climax of betrayal in a story is being watered down by so many betrayals that it tends to lose its effect. The film comes off as silly with this concept. The film also posits that a person in a corrupt back water world must do bad things in order survive. This seems to go nowhere because of all of the betrayals instead of people doing bad things in order to accomplish their final goal of retiring rich and happy. This is where the movie falls flat big time.

The cinematography is just OK but director Ron Howard is capable of better cinematography like his film Inferno (2016), although because of production problems, I’m not sure it was really his fault. The lighting is ridiculously dull and drab, this will definitely put off some fans of star wars. I hope if Disney decides to make a Lando film, they lighten the film up a whole lot. The wardrobe is fine for this film. The backgrounds and set dressing are OK. The music is a bit weird though. This is not a bad film at all but its not a great film either. The movie is good for a summer blockbuster, just for having something to watch. This movie offers nothing more for the Star Wars franchise that a fan ‘needs’ to see. As a movie its self, its just fine, a little better than middle of the road.
