Synopsis: A woman goes into Japan’s suicide forest to find her missing twin sister and confront supernatural terror.

Review: A woman named Sara ( Natalie Dormer ) is looking for her missing twin sister Jess ( also Natalie Dormer ) who has traveled to Japan to contemplate suicide. She goes everywhere Jess has been in order to find track her down. Sara finds out the her sister’s most recent stop is the suicide forest. She meets a reporter named Aiden ( Taylor Kinney ) and a guide named Michi ( Yukiyoshi Ozawa ) who agree to help her on her quest. Together they set out to find Sara’s missing sister.

Natalie Dormer does a very good job in this film. She has good acting talent and she is finally able to show it after Game of Thrones. Natalie has also done very well in the film In Darkness (2018). I think she is at her best when she plays complex characters rather than simple characters like The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part-1 and Part-2.

The film focuses on jump scares mostly. I have never really been into the whole ghost movie genre. I find it to be really boring and lacking in movie making talent. Worst yet these films all seem to copy each other which gives away what will happen next in the movie. At least a film such as Voice from the Stone (2017) is a beautiful movie filled with excellent cinematography, lighting, atmospheric sound, and an amazing house the movie takes place in. As for horror as a genre, its like the action films, you have seen it all before.

Passable Film.

The cinematography is well done. The color, set dressing, wardrobe, and backgrounds are well done. The movie is very strange. Usually the Japanese scary films are actually scary, but this film is heavily watered down. I have reviewed other ghost films such as Voice from the Stone (2017) with Emillia Clarke, The Disappointments Room (2016) with Kate Beckinsale, kind of a ghost film, maybe. These films rely on jump scares way too much. This just goes to show you that these movies are not really scary at all. This film The Forest (2016) came off as very creepy and weird. As a film, the movie is watchable but the story in not profound by any means. A better film to watch would be A Monster Calls (2016) with Felicity Jones and Sigourney Weaver. I gave the movie a perfect score. As for this film, its just passable that’s all. If you really like the actress Natalie Dormer and just want to see her on camera go ahead and watch this movie. If your looking for something good to watch, skip this film.
