The top 10 British Actress movies
Score: 7/10
Director: Matthew Vaughn
Stars: Annabelle Wallis, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Zoë Kravitz, Nicholas Hoult, Michael Ironside, Kevin Bacon.
The Honorable Mention Series:
Synopsis: The origins of the X-Men in the year of 1962 and their part in averting World War III.
Review: In the year of 1962, Charles Xavier ( James McAvoy ) is enlisted by the CIA to stop a malicious villain who is determined to start World War III. With the help of a new device called cerebro, Charles Xavier tracks down many newly recruited mutants with superhuman abilities to help him in his quest.
Annabelle Wallis has a small part but it’s better than Mine (2016) with Armie Hammer and Body of Lies (2008) with Leonardo DiCaprio. She does well for the very small part she has in this film. James McAvoy once again does a masterful job in his roles as usual. I consider him to be one of the best male actors in movies today and I generally enjoy watching his films
Jennifer Lawrence plays a much more developed version of Raven/Mystique than the previous films with Rebecca Romijn. Her character is much more humanized unlike the first movie X-Men (2000) which helps the audience to sympathies with the character more. I think people who are fans of Jennifer Lawrence will enjoy her performance more than everyone else.
This movie beats you over the head with philosophical ideas hard! All throughout the whole movie you see one psychological concept after another, none of which are hidden, and they come in waves. The concepts are even fully explained, some of which have book references. I guess you can say this is a very well thought out movie at the least.
It’s fascinating at the same time sense the X-Men story as a whole seems to be intertwined with current events in the world. Even the first film which was released in the year 2000 still holds up today. I like the way the franchise explores evolution even though the way the films handles it is way over the top.
The cinematography is excellent. The lighting, set dressing, backgrounds, and lighting are all very well done. The wardrobe is sometimes laughable. The regular clothes are just fine but the costumes are hilarious. Magneto’s helmet looks worse than the one in the first movie. You will notice that in the later films the costumes designers try their best to make that thing look passable, but to no avail. The film is actually a good watch. The characters motivation are mostly developed, some more than others. The film also has decent pacing. Not a bad film or origin story at all. The movie is a decent watch.
